Updated EOMasters Pro
I’ve noticed a quite major issue in the SPEX implementation. It could happen that the wrong bands were selected to calculate the index.
For example, for Sentinel-2 and the NIR symbol (N) the band B8A was selected and not B8. This issue was caused by an error in the band selection function using the wavelength. This issue has been fixed in the latest 1.2.1 update along with two minor issues.
Updated Features

Fixed Issues
Result of auto-selection of best suitable band is wrong in some cases, e.g., B8A is selected instead of B8 for NIR for Sentinel-2
Only the generic expression is written to the metadata, e.g., (N-R)/(N+R).
Also, the expression where the generic symbols are replaced with actual band names, e.g., (B8-B4)/(B8+B4) should be added to the metadata
The update can be installed, as usual, by using the plugin manager of SNAP.
Your Christmas Present
You might remember the guessing game from the last newsletter. The new project is a perfect match for Christmas. Cause it is about working together and sharing knowledge. Two things which fit perfectly to the spirit of Christmas.
Now you can unpack your present. The next project is
... (unpacking sound) ... EOpedia
Haven't you searching around and crawling the internet before, for a specific bit of information from the EO domain. This happens to me several times even though Wikipedia exists. But Wikipedia is intended for the broad audience and not for the EO community. The information I'm looking for is either buried below all other or not contained at all.
This made me thought to start a wiki for us.
The intention is not to have lengthy full-blown articles but to have articles which provide the most essential information in a nutshell and link to the best resources on the internet.
If you want to take part and help others by sharing your knowledge, request an account.
I've started already and created several articles. You will likely find mistakes I made or other failures. Feel free to correct them.
I will not make publicly available until next year.
That's this year present for you.
EO and RS News
Geostationary Extended Observations
Modifed image - Credit: BAE SYSTEMS
NOAA's next-generation Geostationary Extended Observations (GeoXO) satellite system, developed with BAE Systems, will enhance measurements of Earth's atmosphere and oceans. With instruments like Atmospheric Composition (ACX), Ocean Color (OCX), and GeoXO Sounder (GXS), GeoXO will provide measurements every 1-2 hours, improving forecasts and warnings for severe weather, air quality, and harmful algal blooms.
One more thing!
Does GeoXO mean hug and kiss Earth? 😀
Relaxing EO Satellite Imagery Video
The USGS has posted a relaxing video of Landsat imagery. This is the right video to get into a chilled and relaxed Christmas mood. You can watch it instead of a fireplace video this year.
Sentinel-2C Commissioning Phase Ended
On Friday the 20th Simonetta Cheli has announced that the commissioning phase of Sentinel-2C has ended.
The satellite is healthy and ready to start the operational phase.
Congrats to the commissioning team.
Software, Tools and Services
SNAP 11 updated
With the latest update of SNAP Sentinel-2C data is supported, the Sen2Coral plugin is available and BandGroups have been added to the PinManager. Also, some issues have been fixed.
